Fruit Trees for sale

by AppleCrisp on December 29, 2011

Our fruit tree sale is once again a hot item, with buyers snapping up lots of apple, peach, and other fruit trees. In anticipation of having homegrown fruit, these buyers are planting the trees in their backyard, at their cabin, or along a field line.

Trees are going fast, so order soon! You can get literally hundreds of different varieties of apple, peach, pear, cherry, and plum trees. Kauffman’s collects orders and then submits those orders to our suppliers, mainly Adams County Nursery. The fruit trees arrive in early April, ready for your muscle and shovel work to get them into the ground. Stanley Kauffman is the point man for the fruit trees – contact him at our market, 717-768-7112.

Barn Owls for Integrated Pest Management

We here at Kauffman’s put a high priority on how our fruit is grown. Quality fruit demands much quality care be given to the soil, the trees, and the environment in general. One innovative way our orchard management uses Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is by attracting and housing barn owls in the orchards. In the [...]

Think Spring

March 16, 2011

It’s here! Soon we will observe blossoms in the orchards and honeybees tending them. It’s one of the most refreshingly beautiful times of the year. Spring brings the promise of new life and bountiful crops, for any farmer, not just orchards. We were also grateful for the plentiful snow during the winter. That snow added [...]

CSA video

January 26, 2011

From our friends at LocalHarvest – We saw a great little video this month called, “Community Supported Agriculture: What to expect when you join a farm.” I highly recommend it for all who are considering joining a CSA for the first time. Great advice, straight from CSA farmers themselves! See Kauffman’s CSA page here.

The cold is miserable… really?

December 8, 2010

Farmers don’t think so! That’s because of the benefits of the cold. However, it must be conceded that most people find this cold snap a little, or very, uncomfortable. But after all, it’s wintertime! Benefits of cold weather for agriculture include the fact that trees and fields “sleep” in preparation for the next harvest; the [...]
